Article: Why We Use CR-39 Polarised Lenses
Why We Use CR-39 Polarised Lenses
...and you should too
In the eyewear industry there are so many types of lenses available. You've got your basic polycarbonate right through to glass.
Then there are coatings applied to some lenses such as AR (anti-reflective coatings) but too much can create visual distortion.
At Ozeano we don't scrimp on lenses, believing them to be the most important element in a pair of sunnies. A good lens ensures your all day eye comfort, reduces eye strain, provides clarity of vision and blocks out glare and sun.
When customers try on a new pair of sunnies they immediately look in the mirror, but what they should be doing is looking out to the horizon, or the ocean and testing the lens.
At Ozeano we choose CR-39 polarised lenses for all our sunglasses frames. CR-39 Polarised lenses are the closest material to mineral glass in terms of transparency and clarity of vision.
It’s important to note that we choose not to use glass lenses in our eyewear as they are much heavier, and not ideal for extended wear (in Australia we tend to wear our sunnies for extended periods of time).
What about TAC lenses?
As the eyewear market evolves, there's a lot of buzz around TAC (Tri-Acetate Cellulose) lenses, celebrated for making polarised lenses more accessible for budget eyewear companies.
While TAC lenses offer great value as a cost-effective alternative, our Optical CR39 Polarized Sunglass Lenses remain the superior choice for those who demand exceptional quality, innovation, and style.
It’s disappointing to see some brands charging customers well over $140 for eyewear but using TAC lenses, and even claiming them to be innovative and superior.
We choose CR39 lenses because we haven’t yet tried another polarised lens that we prefer for clarity of vision and UV protection.
Let’s break down the difference between the lenses we choose at Ozeano versus TAC lenses.
Why Choose CR39 Over TAC Lenses?-
Crystal-Clear Vision & Zero Distortion:
CR39 lenses deliver far superior clarity by eliminating glare and reflections, ensuring optimal performance in any environment. They provide zero distortion - so important for your eye comfort and health, and keeping eye fatigue at bay. -
Lightweight Comfort:
Both CR39 and TAC lenses are lightweight, but CR39 offers unparalleled comfort, providing a feather-like fit perfect for extended wear. -
Exceptional Durability:
CR39 lenses stand out for their exceptional durability and scratch-resistant properties, making them a better choice for active lifestyles. -
Enhanced UV Protection:
Both lens types provide UV protection, but CR39 lenses excel with superior shielding against harmful UVA and UVB rays, equating to 100% protection, helping to safeguard your eye health over the long term.
-
Ideal for Outdoor Enthusiasts:
For those who love adventure, CR39 lenses deliver unmatched clarity, comfort, and durability, making them the ultimate outdoor companion compared to TAC lenses.
Here is what some customers have to say about Ozeano lenses
Some simple tips when looking for lenses:
- Always get category 3 with 100% UV protection and a UV400 rating
- Double check the UV protection when buying ‘fashion eyewear’ and avoid light coloured lenses if you’re unsure (light pink, pale yellow etc).
- Avoid chemist sunglasses, and I hate to say it but even Cancer Council sunnies. A poor quality/cheap lens may have great UV protection but offer dull vision which can tire out your eyes. Cheap lenses are more prone to vision distortion which can harm your eyes after extended wear.
- And don't assume that the expensive brands have good lenses either. These can often be category 2
- Avoid overpaying also - Ozeano lenses are on par, if not better than, some of the leading designer brands.
- If you buy online, make sure you can return your eyewear if you're not happy with the lens.
